Tacrolimus (FK506) is effective in uveitis when given systemically, but carries serious systemic side effects. Our nano-emulsion platform delivers it locally via eye drops, with low systemic exposure. Phase I/IIa completed in 2025.
BNS anti-CB1 is a peripherally restricted CB1R blocker. It reduces body weight and food intake in animal models with negligible brain penetration, addressing the key safety issue that caused Rimonabant's withdrawal. Small oral molecule, with a differentiated profile versus GLP-1 injectables.

Tacrolimus is effective in uveitis but causes serious systemic side effects when taken orally. BioNanoSim's proprietary nano-emulsion, an emulsion of nano oil droplets, enables topical administration via eye drops, delivering tacrolimus to ocular tissues with low systemic exposure.
Oftac dissolves tacrolimus in the oil core of nano-scale oil droplets with a mean size under 200 nm, keeping the poorly water-soluble drug stable and bioavailable in a preservative-free eye drop.
Multicentre, open-label study in 18 patients treated, conducted in Israel. Primary endpoint: anterior chamber cell (ACC) grade reduction.

Rimonabant proved CB1R blockade drives significant weight loss, but was withdrawn due to psychiatric side effects from CNS activity. BNS anti-CB1 addresses this: a small oral molecule that blocks peripheral CB1 receptors, with negligible brain penetration observed in tissue distribution studies.
BNS anti-CB1 reduces body weight in a dose-dependent manner in mice on a high-fat diet, with no effect on animals on normal diet, consistent with target selectivity and a peripheral mechanism.

BioNanoSim contributes its nano-emulsion IP. Rafarm, a Greek pharmaceutical company and European CDMO specialising in ophthalmic and sterile products, contributes GMP manufacturing, European regulatory expertise and commercial infrastructure.
